One of our core values inside the Ascend Mastermind is Cultivate Generosity: We give beyond expectation to create lasting change.
In business, generosity is often misunderstood. Some leaders see it only as financial giving. But true generosity is much bigger than dollars. It is about how we serve, how we show up for others, and how we invest in the people and communities around us.
Generosity builds culture.
Generosity builds loyalty.
And when practiced consistently, generosity creates lasting change.
I saw this firsthand through our team’s involvement with Special Olympics Missouri and the annual Polar Plunge at Lake of the Ozarks.
Each year, our team would raise funds and then jump into the lake as part of the event. What started as a community fundraiser became something much bigger. It created a positive culture within our team and company.
People rallied together.
They encouraged one another.
They took pride in being part of something bigger than themselves.

It also sent a powerful message to the communities we served—that we were committed to helping our communities grow and prosper. That kind of generosity builds trust. Customers notice when a business gives back.
Employees notice when leadership leads with purpose.
Communities notice when businesses invest beyond the transaction.
This is where loyalty is born.
People want to support companies that stand for something meaningful. Internally, generosity strengthens team culture. Externally, it strengthens your brand and reputation. The leaders who give beyond expectation often receive something even more valuable in return: trust, engagement, and long-term loyalty.
Here are three practical action steps you can take right now:
Find one local cause your team can rally around. Whether it is volunteering, fundraising, or sponsoring a community event, shared service experiences strengthen culture and connection.
Look for ways to give beyond what is expected. This may be extra follow-up, added value, a thank-you note, or solving a problem before it becomes a frustration. Small acts of generosity create loyal customers.
Be generous with recognition, encouragement, and opportunities for growth. Sometimes the greatest gift a leader can give is belief in their people.
Remember, generosity is not weakness. It is leadership strength.
It tells your team and your customers that you care about more than the bottom line.
It communicates purpose.
It creates connections.
And it leaves a lasting legacy.
As leaders, we have the opportunity to create change far beyond our businesses. Let’s choose to give beyond expectation. Because generosity does not just change others. It transforms culture.
Make it a GREAT day!
